There are many reasons to choose Spain as holiday place and to purchase property.


Thinking of moving to Spain? Or maybe just acquiring a holiday, whatever your reason you will find the word life, here on the Costa del Sol takes on a new meaning. Relaxed, tranquil and stress free are just some of the things that come to mind when I am asked to describe how life is, the temperature and lack of rain are probably the main reasons most people choose Southern Spain but believe me, this beautiful coast has a lot more to offer than sunshine and sand.

This Spanish coastline offers you excellent cuisine based on years of tradition, the choices of dishes are varied prepared with top quality fresh fish and meat to give you a full flavoured healthy dishes. Many recipes here have a Moorish influence which is not surprising when you think they ruled Spain for 700 years.

The influence of the Moors can also be seen in the architecture, the Alhambra in Granada is very spectacular but for me one of the most interesting examples stands in the city of Seville. A Cathedral built onto the side of a Moorish prayer tower to provide a link between the two cultures that is both beautiful and profound. Ronda always comes to mind when I talk to friends about places in Andalusia that have interested me, this mountain village is a place not to be missed, it is a village divided by a mountain gorge and connected by bridges. If you should be so lucky as to visit Ronda in the Spring the Village Park comes to life with an array of colours as the trees burst into blossom.

So what about the coastal towns, well they vary a lot so you can always find a town that suits you. Some are busy and have a large tourist base others are quieter and give you more of a taste of the real Spain. You will also find prices vary a lot for example prices in Marbella are higher than that of say Manilva however as more people move out here to live the price gap between the different towns is getting smaller. But wherever you decide to live in the Costa del Sol you will find each town has its individuality and that’s what makes this special Coast line the place to own your new holiday home or permanent residence.

Maybe I am biased because I live and work here but for me Estepona is a very special place, the old town is steeped in history and the port though unassuming has a good range of restaurants and some great night life. If you are one of the selected few that own a property here with panoramic views then you can look out to sea and be greeted by the views out to Gibraltar and the North African Coast you can then turn to the North and feast your eyes on the fantastic Mountain Range called Sierra Bermeja. That’s the thing about living here in Estepona within ten minutes from town, you can be driving along a mountain track into unspoilt countryside that offers you the peace and tranquillity you sometimes desire.
